This guide is for replacing the optical drive on the Nintendo Wii U.
Problems :

Some advice before you start
Recommended repair kit
Step 1
Before disassembling the optical drive from your Wii U, turn off your console and unplug all cables for safety.
Use a Phillips screwdriver to unscrew the red circlip screw to hold the battery cover.
Step 2
Grasp the battery drawer and remove it.
Step 3
The backup battery of your Wii is now disassembled.
Step 4
Six plastic covers hide screws to hold the upper shell.
Step 5
Using a triwing screwdriver (green), unscrew the three screws circled in green.
Unscrew the three screws circled in cruciform red.
Step 6
Then, with the spatula iSesamo, peel the two caches framed in red on the edge of the console.
These covers hide screws.
Step 7
Then use the Phillips screwdriver to unscrew the two screws circled in red.
Step 8
Slide the top of the console slice to the left and remove it.
This fastening system is of the "rail" type, just slide the plastic part to release it from the rest of the hull.
Step 9
Once the edge of the console is removed, three new triwing screws (green) appear.
Unscrew these three screws holding the upper shell.
Step 10
Grasp the top shell from the back of the console.
Lift it and remove it.
Step 11
The upper shell of your Wii U is now disassembled.
Step 12
Unscrew, on each side of the console, the two Phillips screws holding the front panel of the Wii U.
Step 13
With the nylon spatula, gently unlock the connector on the front panel.
Unlocking is done by tilting the locking flap.
Step 14
Grasp the front panel ribbon and gently pull on it to disconnect it from the console's motherboard.
Step 15
Gently grasp and remove the front panel.
Step 16
The front panel of your Wii U is now disassembled.
Step 17
Four Phillips-type screws placed on either side of the drive are used to hold it on the console.
Unscrew these screws using the cruciform.
Step 18
Then grab the drive and swing it 90 degrees to the right side.
Attention, a tablecloth connects the reader to the motherboard and the latter is fragile!
Do not remove the drive again at this stage!
Step 19
Once the drive is stable and straight, use a nylon spatula to unlock the optical drive ribbon connector.
Then take out the tablecloth from its connector.
Step 20
The Nintendo Wii U optical drive is now partially disassembled.
You still need to recover and replace the daughter card from your old drive so that the console correctly detects the new installed drive.
Step 21
Reuse the Phillips screwdriver to unscrew the two screws circled in red. (Photo 1)
Then gently separate the top shell of the Wii U drive.
Step 22
The top shell of the optical drive is now open.
Step 23
Again with the Phillips screwdriver, unscrew the 6 screws circled in red. (Photo 1)
Then remove the second part of the hull from the optical drive.
Step 24
The second part of the hull of the optical drive is now removed.
Step 25
Then disconnect the first layer of the daughter board.
Step 26
Unlock the connector of the second layer of the daughter board with the nylon spatula.
Then, gently slide the tablecloth out of its connector.
Step 27
Now disconnect the third layer of the daughter board.
Step 28
Take the Phillips screwdriver to unscrew the screw circled in red.
Step 29
With the tip of the nylon spatula, gently push the tablecloth under the daughterboard.
Now remove the daughter card from the drive.
Step 30
The daughter card is now separated from the Wii U drive.
If there is a problem reading, replace the WIi U drive with a new one by replacing your original daughter card so that the console detects the new drive.
